Andretta is a beautiful village in Kangra valley of Himachal Pradesh. It is famous worldwide for its artists’ colony. The artists’ colony was established in the 1920s, when Irish theater artist and environmentalist, Norah Richards, shifted here from Lahore. She was unhappy in England after her husband died and she longed to return. So, when she met an Englishman who was willing to sell her land in Kangra for Rs. 1, she bought it and this place was in Andretta.
It is located near Palampur in the Kangra District, with Dhauladhar range of the Himalayas as a backdrop. Andretta over the years has attracted many noted artists, theater practitioners, painters and more recently potters. Two of the famous people who became associated with it early on were painters Sobha Singh and B.C. Sanyal.
